چکیده

SUMMARY In this paper, a new large spreading code set with a uniform low cross-correlation is proposed. The proposed code set is capable of (1) increasing the number of assigned user (capacity) in a multicarrier code division multiple access (MC-CDMA) system and (2) reducing the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) of an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system. In this paper, we derive a new code set and present an example to demonstrate performance improvements of OFDM and MC-CDMA systems. Our proposed code set with code length of N has K = 2N + 1 number of codes for supporting up to (2N + 1) users and exhibits lower cross correlation properties compared to the existing spreading code sets. Our results with subcarrier N = 16 confirm that the proposed code set outperforms the current pseudo-orthogonal carrier interferometry (POCI) code set with gain of 5 dB at bit-error-rate (BER) level of 10 −4 in the additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel and gain of more than 3.6 dB in a multipath fading channel. key words: spreading code, OFDM, MC-CDMA, peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR), pseudo-orthogonal code, Carrier Interferometry (CI)

Adaptive Selection of Spreading Code Subsets from Orthogonal Binary Code Sets for Reduced PAPR in MC-CDMA Systems

One of the major concerns with multicarrier CDMA (MC-CDMA) systems is the high peak to average power ratio (PAPR) that can lead to degraded transmission power efficiency. Based on the well known fact that suitable allocation of user spreading codes can be used as a PAPR reduction tool, we in this contribution, investigate the PAPR property of a recently proposed spreading code set called “Ortho...

Overview of MC CDMA PAPR Reduction Techniques

High Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR) of the transmitted signal is a critical problem in multicarrier modulation systems (MCM) such as Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM), and Multi-Carrier Code Division Multiple Access (MC CDMA) systems, due to large number of subcarriers. High PAPR leads to reduced resolution, and battery life. It also deteriorates system performance. This pap...

Reduced-Complexity PAPR Minimization Schemes for MC-CDMA Systems

Multicarrier Code-Division Multiple Access (MC-CDMA) (Hara & Prasad, 1997), which is based on a combination of an CDMA scheme and Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) signaling (Fazel & Kaiser, 2008), has attracted much attention in forthcoming mobile communication systems, because of its intrinsic spectrum efficiency and interference suppression capabilities. In MC-CDMA, informati...

Clipping Versus Symbol Switching for PAPR Reduction in Coded OFDM

In multicarrier systems, the transmitted timedomain signal exhibits large amplitude peaks. This peak-toaverage power ratio (PAPR) problem complicates the practical use of multicarrier systems: the amplifier used to transmit the signal saturates because of the large peaks and causes non-linear distortion. As this non-linear distortion frustrates severely the detection of the multicarrier signal,...

Selective Tone Reservation method for PAPR reduction in SFBC-OFDM systems

The high Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR) of Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) and MIMO-OFDM systems reduces the system efficiency. In this paper, an extension of Tone Reservation (TR) method is introduced for PAPR reduction in Space Frequency Block Coded OFDM (SFBC-OFDM) systems. The proposed algorithm is based on a time domain kernel which is added to the signal of the anten...
